Medicinal chemistry is fascinating, intellectually challenging, and requires much knowledge in such diverse disciplines as chemistry (synthetic, analytical, theoretical, physical), biology (mainly cell), pharmacology, and other sciences. It is NOT a subdiscipline of organic chemistry, and if you have a degree in organic chemistry, there is much additional coursework before calling yourself a true medicinal chemist. It is the very definition of a hybrid discipline.
