be sure pumps are silent, pulling excellent vacuums, clean; change oil regularly; be sure vacuum rack is clean and lubricated appropriately (this means taking it apart and cleaning it every so often [maybe once/semester])

maintain gallon bottles of sat'd. NaHCO3, Na2CO3, brine, etc.; be sure that ca. 1" of undissolved salt is on the bottom of each bottle

GC: maintain gas chromatograph in good working order, flush columns as necessary, run standard mixture periodically, maintain interfaced computer.  HPLC: maintain LC in good working order, flush columns as necessary, run standard mixture periodically, maintain detector/printer

Group Area Supplies/ Cleanliness
replenish supplies of wash acetone, ether, paper towels, bulk solvents, pipettes, concentrated acids, inorganic reagents, Chem-wipes, etc.  Be sure group areas are clean, including refrigerator, balances, TLC, rotovap, vacuum rack, eyewashes, floor (esp. under hoods, sinks, etc.)

Chemical Inventory
order chemicals/supplies as necessary in consultation with THB; reconcile received goods with P.O.s, mark date on new things, maintain file of P.O.s, enter received chemicals into inventory

Distilled Reagents
distill reagents into serum/other bottles as needed (primarily i-Pr2NH, PhSO2Cl, pyridine, and Et3N)

Safety Compliance/
Hazardous Waste
check compliance with safety rules, esp. waste logs, safety equipment checking, no clutter around eyewashes/shower, no glass bottles on floor; full waste bottles go to stockroom, etc.

* You'll note that the overall number of jobs has decreased considerably; this was done by combining several previously-separate but definitely related jobs.  Recall, too, that Mark willl not join us until the fall.

Occasional Whole-Group Jobs

Defrost freezer

move contents of freezer/refrigerator to another freezer; defrost/clean our unit, and, while this is happening, go through fridge contents and toss anything w/o label or in group glassware; reorganize chemicals upon transferral back to clean fridge
Clean glassware
gather empty serum bottles/group glassware (including S.T. flasks and fritted glass funnels) and soak in cleaning solution (probably chromic acid); rinse thoroughly, including with distilled water; put back in proper place in lab
